Kinsbourne Green
Brief: This was a large open garden, with an existing natural pond to the rear and woodlands within the grounds, the client was nearing completion of a new build, but built in a traditional manor house style, and then needed a garden that would complement this style. They wanted both garden and house to feel like they had already been there. Keeping in line with the style of the house, they were also keep that the whole garden was accessible, and had a traditional feel to the planting but with a more updated feel.
The outcome: We designed a traditional garden, using natural and reclaimed materials such as reclaimed yorkstone, stone benches and pots. The overall feel is that of a traditional courtyard garden. The large terrace was divided into usable zones using planting beds creating walk ways and interest. A large above ground pond was created, while there was already a natural pond in the garden they wanted one that could be appreciated from the house and the terrace. The pond was carefully lined up with a large central window so it can be appreciate year round. The height of the pond allows it to be sat on comfortably allowing visitors to the garden to relax instantly to the sound of the water.
By having lawn and planting on the terrace it really helps to bring the garden to the house, allows it to be appreciated and easier to maintain. The planting has been carefully chose to have elements of formality associated with this manor house feel but with playful notes keeping it interesting, soft and inviting. There was a large bank dividing the garden with the woodland, this was carefully planted to help bridge the two areas as well as making it a feature in its own right. There is a real sense that this garden has always been here, which is exactly what the client wanted.
