Brookmans Park

Brief: A long forgotten garden consisting overgrown laurels and lawn and hedging. The client wanted to bring life back to the garden, while also making sure there was an exercise pool which did not dominate the design. The garden sits at an awkward angle to house which needed careful management. Finally while there was a terrace, it was not a terrace which encourages the clients and the family out into the garden for family BBQs. As with many houses, the rear of the house is made up of glass so the garden is on show year round.

The outcome: There is a large tree to the rear, which we chose to retain and work with, by creating a raised terrace to the rear it allowed us to sink in a exercise pool while also developing a new layer to the garden. The garden was designed on an angle so that each section felt squared to the garden from with in the house. While not a large garden, by dividing the garden we were able to allow the garden to be used in various ways, from family BBQs, quiet suntrap retreats. The planting was crucial for softening the angels of the garden, screening the raised terrace at the rear, creating movement and zoning interests through out the garden.
